Using a variation of their famous “street view” technology, Google has created the Art Project a pretty interesting resource for art lovers and museum junkies. I’ve had the good fortune to visit a few of the 15 to 20 museums featured, and can confirm that it is not exactly like being there, but in the absence of a visit, it’s the next best thing. The ability to zoom in on the works of art gives the ability to study brushwork in detail that would earn you a word from the security guard, if you tried it in person. The web app is Flash-based, so unfortunately, ipad viewers need not apply.
